Accomplishments, Bancroft Betterment Corporation Community Development Task Force, 2004 - 2005
 

Housing Committee

  • Obtained Community Development Block Grant funds (CDBG) from the State of Nebraska for a housing market study
  • Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District completed housing market study
  • Created and appointed Bancroft Housing Board
  • Developed proposal for a down-payment assistance program
 

Parks and Recreation Committee

  • Organize and sponsor annual park cleanup project
  • Sponsor village membership in the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum (with funding assistance from Operation Roundup)
  • Conducted village park and village tree inventories with state and district foresters
  • Obtained park landscape plan from the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum
  • Created new village Mini-Park on Main Street
  • Obtained funding from the Lower Elkhorn NRD for plant materials at the Mini-Park
  • Organized planting of plant materials at the mini-park
  • Developed village tree ordinance
  • Obtained 2005 Arbor Day Proclamation from the Bancroft Village Board
  • Created and appointed Bancroft Tree Board
  • Created committee for Recreation Complex
  • Created plan for Recreation Complex
  • Created plan funding proposals for village walking/biking trail system
  • Developed funding proposal for village walking/biking trail system
 

Community Betterment and Beautification Committee

  • Maintain landscaping areas at the village sign areas
  • Complete the Department of Economic Development TARGET evaluation, a rural tourism marketing self-evaluation study, in conjunction with input from the public, local businesses and services and the Neihardt State Historical Site
  • Creation of a new village website - www.bancroftnebraska.org - in partnership with the Village Board, the staff and students of Bancroft-Rosalie Community Schools, and Great Plains Communications
  • Participation in the Nebraska Community Improvement Program through the Department of Economic Development; in 2004, Bancroft was an NCIP award winner in Class I, Parks, Recreation and Forestry
  • Creation of a village newsletter in conjunction with the Village Clerk and Village Board Participation by a community team in DED/Heartland Center for Leadership Development community leadership training
 

Community Infrastructure Committee (in conjunction with the Village Board)

  • Obtained Department of Environmental Quality loan for water system upgrade project
  • Completed water upgrade project
  • Obtained CDGG funding for waste water system planning project
  • Obtained CDBG funding for further water system upgrades, including a new village well
  • Obtained CDBG funding for a village comprehensive plan
 

Community Foundation Committee

  • Creation of the Future of Bancroft Community Foundation, a foundation to raise money to support the economic and community development goals of the Bancroft Betterment Corporation
