Park and Recreation Committee

Committee Priority
Develop and maintain community park and recreation system

Narrative
Community park and recreation systems and infrastructure need to be enhanced to better serve the needs of community residents, improve community appearance, and provide benefits to the community (i.e., economic development, tourism, improved health).

 

Committee Strategies and Goals

  1. Enhance appearance and functionality of municipal park system.

  2. Upgrade and enhance municipal athletic and recreation facilities, including renovation of baseball and softball fields and development of football field with a track.

  3. Create municipal programs related to parks and recreation.

Additional Action Tasks:
The following is a list of Action Tasks related to the main Bancroft Municipal Park broken down into short term (immediate to 1 year); medium-term (1-2 years); and long-term (2+ years).
 

Short-term:

  • Flag Pole illumination
  • Band shell repair/restoration - researching history to determine course of action and potential relevance for historical designation, preservation and funding
  • Construction of additional athletic equipment storage shed - to replace storage in band shell
  • Landscaping around dike
  • "Bridge" across drainage ditch at north entrance of park
  • Repairs on Bring Memorial sign
  • Welcome sign for park

Medium-Term:

  • Repair and replacement of lights, esp. softball field
  • Campground improvements
  • Repair and enhance picnic shelters - general repairs and maintenance, extend cement floors
  • West parking area - create more of a parking area look

 

Long-term:

  • Larger enclosed shelterhouse/picnic shelter - electricity, divided areas/rooms
  • Playground equipment replacement - for older equipment (metal slides and other equipment)

 

 
Housing Committee

Committee Priority
Develop housing options for the Village of Bancroft.
 
Narrative
The Village of Bancroft has numerous issues concerning housing - a lack of adequate affordable single family housing; a lack of available lots for housing construction; and a shortage of available housing options for seniors. Community surveys have demonstrated that housing is an issue of primary concern for village residents. The Village will undertake steps to determine the housing needs and options of the community and to implement the recommended steps to provide an adequate, affordable housing supply that meets the needs of all segments of the village population, and to ensure an adequate housing supply for future development goals of the community.

Enhance and modernize the water, sewer and street systems of the Village of Bancroft.
 
Narrative
Community infrastructure, namely the municipal water and sewer system and streets, need repairs, upgrades and betterment to provide a safe and reliable source of water and a functional municipal street system for the health, safety and future development of the community.

Community Foundation Committee

Committee Priority
Create and implement a Community Foundation to support the Bancroft Betterment Corporation and its community and economic development projects.
 
Narrative
The residents of the Village of Bancroft will create, fund and implement a community foundation to support the Bancroft Betterment Corporation (BBC) and promote the general social and economic welfare of the Village of Bancroft.

  1. Complete all necessary legal and IRS paperwork and filing to create a community foundation.

  2. Implement a fundraising and public relations strategy for the newly created foundation. 3.

  3. Implement policies to carry out the purpose of the community foundation.

This committee will coordinate initiatives and projects to ensure that Bancroft remains an attractive community, both aesthetically and in terms of relations with residents and visitors.
